British Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have joined forces with France's air force in a joint strike on an hidden munitions depot in Syria used by the IS group, as stated by the UK's MoD.
The location, identified by intelligence, was assessed as storing arms and explosives, the announcement noted, and was positioned in hills just to the north of the historic site of Palmyra in central Syria.
"The RAF jets utilized laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to target a number of entry passages down to the site... early reports indicate the strike was effective," the MoD said.
There was no indication of any civilian impact in the attack on Saturday evening and each participating jet returned to base without incident, the defence officials confirmed.
The British jets were assisted by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.
Daesh - referred to as ISIS - enforced extremist governance over large swathes of Iraq and Syria prior to its 2019 collapse.
"This operation shows our UK leadership, and resolve to operate in unison with allied nations, to stamp out any re-emergence of the terrorist group and their dangerous and violent ideologies in the area," Britain's Defence Chief the minister said.
British military aircraft have conducted surveillance missions over Syria to "prevent any efforts to regroup" of Islamic State following its defeat at the battle of Baghuz in 2019, the ministry said.
"I must thank every member of British forces involved in this strike for their expertise and their courage," he added. "They were part of numerous UK service members deployed over the holidays. This mission, to take out dangerous terrorists who threaten our safety, shows how our armed forces are prepared to act, continuously, ensuring Britain's security domestically and strong abroad."
In December, the US military conducted what it called a "major assault" against IS targets in the country, following an ambush resulted in the deaths of two US servicemembers and a civilian interpreter in the Palmyra area.
The United Nations estimates IS still maintains between 5,000 and 7,000 fighters in both countries.
